The flickering candlelight danced on the stone walls of Severus Snape's private chambers, casting long shadows that intertwined like the tangled emotions within the room. YN Black, professor of herbology and Sirius Black's sister stood, by the small window, her silhouette framed against the night sky, her heart racing as she felt Severus’s presence behind her. The warmth of his breath brushed her neck, sending shivers down her spine.
“Are you sure this is wise?” he murmured, his voice low, laced with a hint of concern. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering against her skin.
“Wise? No,” she replied, turning to face him, her eyes bright with mischief. “But it feels right.” She stepped closer, the distance between them collapsing as she leaned into him. The world outside faded, leaving just the two of them, enveloped in the cocoon of secrecy that their love had woven amidst the chaos of the wizarding world.
Severus’s lips curled into a ghost of a smile, a rare sight that made YN’s heart swell. “You are a reckless woman,” he teased softly, but his voice betrayed the warmth he felt for her. She knew he would never admit it, but his heart was as entwined with hers as the roots of the mandrakes they tended to in Herbology class.
“Only for you,” she whispered, and then she closed the gap between them, tasting the bittersweet flavor of passion and danger on his lips. They melted into a kiss, a moment of stolen bliss that felt both electrifying and forbidden.
But as the summer sun began to rise, so did the reality that awaited them.
---
The stone walls of 12, Grimmauld Place echoed with the tension of the gathering Order members. Flickering candles cast dancing shadows across the room, illuminating the faces of those present, each marked by the weight of their shared burden. At the head of the table, Albus Dumbledore sat, his eyes twinkling behind his half-moon spectacles, while Sirius Black paced restlessly nearby, hands shoved deep into his pockets.
“Snape hasn’t changed, Albus,” Sirius insisted, his voice rising, a stark contrast to the calm ambiance. “He’s still a Death Eater at heart. We can’t trust him!”
“Enough, Black,” Severus Snape retorted, his voice low and edged with disdain. He leaned back in his chair, dark robes pooling around him like shadows. “I have proven my loyalty time and again. Your inability to see beyond your own prejudice is your weakness.”
“Prejudice? You call it prejudice when I refuse to trust a man who would sell his own soul for a chance at power?” Sirius shot back, fists clenching at his sides. “You are a coward and always will be, Snivellus!”
The tension in the room thickened, and Yn, seated quietly at the far end, felt her heart race. As a professor of Herbology, she had spent years cultivating patience and understanding, but the childish bickering between her brother and Severus was grating on her last nerve.
“Enough!” Yn’s voice rang out, firm and clear. She rose from her seat, her dark hair cascading over her shoulders like a waterfall, catching the candlelight. “This is not the time or place for your petty squabbles. We have far more important matters to discuss.”
Sirius shot her a glare, eyes narrowing. “You’re on his side now? You don’t even know what he is capable of!”
“Actually, I do.” The words slipped out before she could stop them, and the room fell silent, a collective breath held in anticipation.
“What do you mean by that?” Sirius asked, voice low and dangerous.
With a sudden rush of courage—or perhaps foolishness—Yn took a step closer to Severus, her heart in her throat. “Because Severus and I are…dating.” The admission hung in the air like a spell that had gone wrong, the shock palpable.
Gasps echoed around the room. But Dumbledore merely raised an eyebrow, as if he had expected this revelation. Sirius’s face twisted in disbelief, anger radiating off him in waves.
“You’re joking,” he breathed, a harsh laugh escaping his lips. “You cannot be serious, Yn. You’re dating him? That—”
“Is none of your business!” she snapped, feeling the heat of her brother’s gaze like a physical blow. “I’m not a child, Sirius. I can make my own choices.”
“This monster has hurt many people before, and you think he’s changed, what makes you think he won't hurt you just as well?” Sirius’s voice trembled with a mixture of fury and heartbreak. “I won’t allow it!”
“Allow it?” Yn’s voice cracked, her emotions spilling over. “Who do you think you are to dictate my life? To tell me who I can and cannot love?”
“Love? You call this love?” Sirius spat, his face pale with anger. “You’re putting yourself in danger. He’s playing you, Yn!”
“Enough!” Severus interjected, his voice colder than the winter winds. “This is between Yn and me. You will not speak to her as if she was a child.”
“The problem is you’re not just some charming suitor—” Sirius shot back, but Yn stepped in, her heart racing.
“He's right, I’m not a child, Sirius!” she yelled, tears brimming in her eyes. “I know you just wanna protect me, espicially after what happened to Regulus, but I can take care of myself!”
The mention of her lost brother struck a chord, and the room fell silent again, the weight of grief settling heavily upon them. Sirius’s eyes softened momentarily, but his anger flared back to life.
“You’re making a mistake! I won’t stand by and watch you ruin your life!”
“Ruin my life?” Yn’s voice cracked, the tears finally spilling down her cheeks. “You've spent most of your life in Azkaban because you chose revenge, you don’t know anything about me or what I want!”
With that, she turned on her heel, storming out of the room. Her footsteps echoed in the hall, a stark reminder of the conflict left unresolved.
Sirius stared after her, guilt gnawing at him. The last time he had seen his sister cry was when Regulus died, and the memory twisted in his chest like a knife. But pride held him back; he didn’t want to admit he was wrong.
“Leave her be, Sirius,” Dumbledore said softly, his voice filled with understanding. “She needs time.”
“Time? She’s with him!” Sirius snapped, gesturing toward Severus. “What if he hurts her? I won’t let that happen!”
Severus, who had remained silent through most of the confrontation, felt a flicker of something akin to guilt. He hadn’t meant for this to happen. He hadn’t wanted to cause a rift between the siblings.
“I’ll speak to her,” he said, rising from his chair.
“Not without my permission,” Sirius warned, eyes fierce.
“Enough!” Dumbledore interjected, his voice commanding. “This is not a battlefield, gentlemen. We are fighting a war, and if you cannot set aside your differences for the sake of the mission, you will find yourselves at a greater loss.”
“And Sirius, you must know that we are often surprised by the paths others choose,” Dumbledore continue, his voice gentle but firm. “But it is not our place to judge the journey, only to trust that love—wherever it is found—brings with it the potential for great courage and even greater understanding.”
Sirius’s shoulders slumped, but the anger still simmered beneath the surface. He turned away, staring out the window at the darkening sky.
Yn leaned against her door, her heart racing, tears streaming down her face. How had it come to this? She had hoped that her relationship with Severus would be a source of strength, not a point of contention. She felt trapped between loyalty to her brother and her love for Severus, a tangled web of emotions that left her feeling breathless.
A soft knock interrupted her thoughts, and she wiped her eyes hastily. “Go away,” she called, her voice thick with sadness.
“Yn?” Severus’s voice was low, almost tentative. “May I come in?”
She hesitated but finally opened the door. Severus stood there, his dark eyes searching hers, concern etched on his features.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly, stepping inside. “I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“It’s not your fault,” she replied, shaking her head. “It’s just…Sirius doesn’t understand. He’s hurting and he's doesn't see it.”
“I know.” Severus’s voice was gentle, a contrast to the sharpness that had characterized their earlier confrontation. “But I can’t change who I am. I can’t change how I feels. All I can do is be here for you.”
The sincerity in his voice warmed her, and she took a shaky breath. “I don’t want to choose between you two,” she admitted, her voice trembling. “But I feel like I have to.”
“You don’t,” he said firmly, crossing the room to stand before her. “You can be loyal to your brother and still love me. He’ll come around eventually.”
“But what if he doesn’t?” she whispered, looking up at him, searching for reassurance. “What if I lose him forever? I've already spent twelve years without him, Severus”
Severus reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “Then we will find a way to make it work. Together.”
His touch sent a shiver down her spine, and she leaned into him, the warmth of his body grounding her in the chaos of her thoughts.
Days passed, the tension palpable within Grimmauld Place. Sirius avoided her, and every time she caught a glimpse of him, guilt twisted in her stomach. She missed her brother, and the silence between them felt insurmountable.
One evening, as Yn prepared for bed, a soft knock broke through her thoughts. She opened the door to find Sirius standing there, his expression a mix of determination and regret.
“Can I come in?” he asked, voice softer than she’d ever heard.
“Of course,” she replied, stepping aside.
Sirius entered, shifting awkwardly in the small space, his hands shoved deep in his pockets. “I’ve been a right git,” he began, his voice low. “And I’m sorry. I just…” He hesitated, searching for the words. “I don’t want to see you get hurt. Not again.”
Tears pricked her eyes, and she nodded, unable to speak.
“I know I can’t dictate your life,” he continued, his voice gaining strength. “But I’m your brother, and I care. I just—” He paused, taking a deep breath. “If you’re going to be with him, I need to know that he’s not going to hurt you.”
Yn crossed her arms, heart racing. “He won’t, Sirius. He’s different now. He’s changed. You just weren't here to see it”
Sirius studied her for a moment, the anger in his eyes fading, replaced by something softer. “I just want you to be happy.”
“I am happy” she said firmly. “With him. I love him, Sirius.”
The confession hung in the air, and Sirius let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his hair. “I hate that I can’t just accept this,” he muttered, pacing the room. “I just—he’s Snape. He’s always been Snape.”
“Maybe it’s time to let that go,” she said, her voice steady. “You have to let me make my own choices.”
Sirius stopped, turning to face her, vulnerability etched in every line of his face. “I just wish you’d chosen someone else, someone-”
“Someone safer?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. “You want me to date someone you approve of? That’s not how love works, Sirius. It’s not just about safety; it’s also about connection and heart.”
He opened his mouth to argue but then closed it, the fight leaving him. “I don’t want to lose you,not after… Regulus” he admitted, his voice breaking.
“You won’t,” she promised, stepping closer, reaching for his hands. “I’ll always be your sister, no matter what.”
A silence stretched between them, thick with unspoken emotions. Then, Sirius pulled her into a tight embrace, and she melted against him, feeling the warmth of family wrap around her.
“I just want you to be safe,” he murmured into her hair, and she felt the tremor in his voice.
“I will be,” she whispered back, her heart swelling with love for her brother. “I promise.”
The next day, as the sun broke through the clouds, casting light upon the darkened house, Yn found Severus in the garden, tending to the herbs she had planted. The vibrant greens and delicate blooms stood in stark contrast to the somber atmosphere of Grimmauld Place.
“Hey,” she said softly, approaching him.
Severus looked up, his expression softening at the sight of her. “How did your conversation with your brother go?”
“He’s…coming around,” she replied, a small smile breaking through her earlier worries. “He just needs time.”
“Time,” Severus echoed, a hint of skepticism in his tone. “That can be a double-edged sword.”
“Maybe,” she admitted, reaching out to touch a petal of a blooming herb. “But I think he’ll come to see that we’re not just some reckless fling. This is real between us.”
Severus stepped closer, his eyes locking onto hers. “And what if he doesn’t? What if he never accepts this?”
“Then we’ll figure it out together,” she said firmly, determination swirling within her. “I won’t let fear dictate my happiness.”
For a moment, Severus studied her, and then his lips curled into a rare smile. “You are far more stubborn than I anticipated.”
“Stubbornness is a family trait,” she teased, her heart swelling with affection. “But that doesn't stop me from loving you”
As they stood together, the sun casting a warm glow around them, Yn felt a sense of peace settle within her. The path ahead was uncertain, but her heart was anchored in the knowledge that love, no matter how complicated, was worth fighting for.
And as the winds of change swept through the garden, Yn knew she would stand strong—both for herself and for the love she had chosen, no matter who stood against her.

Hugh Dougherty at The Daily Beast:
Jeffrey Epstein described himself as Donald Trump’s “closest friend” and claimed intimate knowledge of his proclivity for sex, including cuckolding his best friends, according to recordings obtained exclusively by the Daily Beast. The convicted pedophile even boasted of his closeness to Trump and his now-wife Melania by claiming, “the first time he slept with her was on my plane,” which was dubbed the Lolita Express.
Epstein spoke at length about Trump with the author Michael Wolff in August 2017, two years before being found dead in his jail cell. Wolff was researching his bombshell bestseller Fire and Fury at the time. The recordings cast more light on Trump’s long relationship with Epstein, and will add to debate over the character of the Republican candidate, especially his attitudes and conduct toward women, just days before the election. The tapes tell Epstein’s version of the relationship between two former friends and their very different paths: One toward infamy, prison and suicide; the other toward power, the Oval Office and his own criminal conviction for paying hush money to a porn star. Trump’s camp referred to the tapes’ release as “false smears” and “election interference.” The tapes also offer unusual insight into the friendship of two wealthy, powerful men who frequently went out on the town together, prowling for women in New York and Atlantic City. [...]
Asked by Wolff, “How do you know all this?” Epstein replied, “I was Donald’s closest friend for 10 years.” Wolff shared the tape with the Daily Beast ahead of discussing it on his Fire and Fury podcast on Monday. Last Thursday he caused shockwaves by revealing a few seconds of a separate recording in which Epstein spoke in detail about the inner workings of the Trump administration. Wolff also said Thursday that the pedophile showed off photos of Trump with topless young women sitting in his lap. Wolff, a veteran journalist and author who was also the biographer of Rupert Murdoch, has long attracted praise and bromides. When Fire & Fury was published in January 2018, Trump tried to stop it with a failed cease and desist order, then threatened to sue. No case ever materialized, and it sold 5 million copies worldwide. Wolff, who appears regularly on his Fire and Fury podcast, wrote two more books on Trump after Fire and Fury, and about Epstein in 2021’s Too Famous.
Wolff says he has up to 100 hours of recordings of interviews with Epstein, including from using him as a source for Fire and Fury, and from years of meetings when the disgraced financier appeared to want Wolff to write a biography of him. Wolff said he decided to release parts of the archive after a new accuser, a former Miss Switzerland, alleged last week that Trump had groped her in 1992.
[...] Trump’s long friendship with Epstein, which spanned the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s has been well documented. In the 1990s, the two publicly partied at Mar-a-Lago and went to a Victoria’s Secret Angels show together. In 2002, Trump told New York Magazine of Epstein, “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” Epstein’s infamous leaked addressbooks had Trump’s own phone number as well as Melania’s, while Trump’s name appeared seven times in the passenger logs of Epstein’s planes. (The books and logs also included princes, politicians and potentates such as Bill Clinton, former British prime minister Tony Blair, former Israeli PM Ehud Barak, Prince Andrew and celebrities and billionaires including Mick Jagger and Les Wexner.)
[...] In 2022 Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend who procured him underage girls, would be sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for the sex trafficking of minors. Upon hearing of her arrest in 2020, Trump, then president, said he wished her well. “Her friend or boyfriend was either killed or committed suicide in jail. Yeah, I wish her well… Good luck.” In 2004, Epstein and Trump fell out when they both tried to buy a Palm Beach estate, Maison de L’Amitié, out of bankruptcy. The next year, the FBI began investigating Epstein for child sex trafficking.
In 2019, on the day after Epstein’s arrest, Trump said in the Oval Office, “I was not a fan of his, that I can tell you,” and that they had not been friends for 15 years. He said it “did not much matter” what the fall-out had been over. This September, asked about Epstein by the tech podcaster Lex Fridman, Trump said: “He was a good salesman. He was a hailing, hearty type of guy. He had some nice assets that he’d throw around like islands, but a lot of big people went to that island. But fortunately, I was not one of them.”
[...]
The Epstein tape includes an allegation—which is impossible to verify—that Trump had an affair with a politician while in the White House. Epstein offered no proof or sourcing for the claim. He also alleged that Trump cheated on both his first wife Ivana and second wife Marla Maples with “a Black girl.” At one section, Epstein used a Yiddish racial slur to refer to Black women and alleged Trump boasted to him, “I’m f---ing all these Black women.” The tape mixes sexual allegations with other aspects of Trump’s life. Early in the recording Epstein is heard to say, “You probably know he had a scalp reduction. He’s getting the same male pattern baldness that we all have. He had his scalp reduced. It’s hysterical.” Trump has long refused to release full medical records while his White House medical reports did not disclose any prior surgeries.
“He’s charming. In a devious way, he’s charming. To some extent it’s a typical tragedy where he believes his own bulls---”
— Epstein on Trump
And Epstein offers his eyewitness account of Trump Tower and Trump’s office where, he said, Trump had “fake honors” on the wall. Trump, he claimed, would yell at his personal assistant Rhona Graff, “who’s a loyal, perfect, secretary,” as well as Matthew Calamari Snr., his bodyguard, and Michael Cohen, his attorney who is now an enemy. Epstein compared Trump to “an emotionally challenged 9-year-old,” and said, “He screams and yells at Rhona more than anybody else. His screaming is how he treats people. He has a tantrum, not a temper. If you don’t understand him, it’s frightening. Once you understand him, it’s sort of silly.” Epstein also told Wolff he had positive things to say about Trump. “He’s charming. In a devious way, he’s charming,” he said. “To some extent it’s a typical tragedy where he believes his own bulls---. He has delusions of grandiosity, then he takes it on board.” He added that he had a “self-deprecating nature” and was “not vulgar.” “He’s funny,” Epstein said. “Self-awareness means you’re self-aware. He’s aware of that person, Donald Trump. He talks about The Trump, The Trumpster. ‘Trump’s getting laid.’”
On the tape Epstein, speaking in a New York accent, also mentioned the rich and powerful. (In a deposition released after his death Epstein admitted under oath that he dropped the names of people he had never met.) The names he mentioned on tape include: Former president Bill Clinton; Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner; then-Defense Secretary James Mattis; and the billionaires Carl Icahn and Tom Barrack, both of whom are friends of Trump. Clinton was a long-standing friend of Epstein but has denied any association after the pedophile’s disgrace in the mid-2000s. Mattis has no known association with him. Ivanka was photographed with him as a child but Kushner has never been known to be linked to him. Barrack appeared in a leaked appointment diary for Epstein from 2016, while Carl Icahn, a corporate raider and long-time Trump friend, was in Epstein’s 1997 address book. Startlingly for a man who became one of the world’s most notorious sex offenders, Epstein on the tapes offers a damning judgment of Trump, telling Wolff, “The moral compass just does not exist.”
The Daily Beast reported that Jeffrey Epstein was Donald Trump's closest friend for about 10 years, according to tapes obtained from the outlet that featured Michael Wolff interviewing the late pedophile.

Thank you for your consideration. ❤️
[ID 1: A title slide that reads, "Why Dallon Weekes is Really A VAMPIRE, By Dru". The word "vampire" is written in red in a harsher font and in all caps. To the left of the title is a photo of Dallon Weekes under purplish lighting during an iDKHOW concert. To the right of the title is clip art of a stereotypical vampire sitting up inside of a coffin, a glass of wine in his hand.
ID 2: A slide titled, "Introduction". The body of the slide states, "Dallon James Weekes. You know him. You love him. ...Or at least, you think you do. But what if he was hiding a more sinister secret below his floral print shirts and immense musical talent? In this presentation, I will prove that the Dallon Weekes you think you know is actually a bloodsucking creature of the night." An image is below this of Dallon with red eyes, smiling and giving a thumbs up. The caption says, "Ignore the h8rs and keep being a demon, guys. That's what really matters."
ID 3: A slide titled, "Reason #1: His Lyrics". The body of the slide states, "To start, let's take a look at his lyrics, specifically the lyrics of his song Kiss Goodnight." Below this is a screenshot of some lyrics from Kiss Goodnight, which read, "Should you invite me in / To spend the night on the floor / Oh please believe I'll believe I'll be a gentlemen / Or you can show me the door". There's more text below this, which states, "Pay special attention to that first line. He says, 'Should you invite me in', suggesting to his wife-to-be to invite him to her place. Now, why am I pointing this out? Because who is it that needs to be specifically invited to places before entering? That's right. VAMPIRES." The word "vampires" is bolded, red, and in all caps.
ID 4: A slide titled, "Reason #2: His Youthfulness". The body of the slide states, "Look at Dallon in the 2000s." Below this is a photo of Dallon from when he was in The Brobecks. He's looking to the camera with a smile. The slide then says, "Now look at him today." Below this is a photo of Dallon during an iDKHOW concert. He's speaking into a microphone and holding up a water bottle. At the bottom of the slide, it says, "Not much difference, right? Twenty years have passed, and he still looks as young as ever. Now, who else are known to stay looking the same age across long stretches of time? That's right. VAMPIRES." Once again, the word "vampires" is bolded, red, and in all caps.
ID 5: A slide titled, "Reason #3: His Hint Hiding In Plain Sight". The body of the slide states, "Now, the final reason. I've saved the best for last. For our final piece of evidence hinting towards Dallon's vile vampirism, let's look at Le Velo Pour Deux, shall we?" Below this is a screenshot of some lyrics from Le Velo Pour Deux, which say, "Vampires never have to complain, / Of living a dull circumstance / So let's all pretend that we are undead, / In turn of the century France." Below this, it says, "Again, pay special attention to the first line. Or even just the first word! Because what is it that he refers to? VAMPIRES. This begs the question: how would Dallon know anything about the way vampires live? Well, if you take all the previously discussed evidence into account, it becomes clear that the only possible reason for this is that he himself IS a VAMPIRE." Both instances of the word "vampire" are bolded, red, and in all caps.
ID 6: A slide titled, "In Conclusion...". The body of the slide states, "After viewing this slideshow, it must become clear to you that Dallon Weekes is, in fact, a vampire. This just goes to show you that you can't always trust your first impressions. Where you may see a kind, funny, charismatic father of two with outrageous musical talent, there may actually be a bloodthirsty, fanged monster lingering just beneath the surface..." Below this is clipart of Dracula edited to have Dallon's head over the normal head. /end ID]
#dru speaks#the beginning of this slideshow has been sitting in my google slides app for quite some time now#but i suddenly got the motivation to complete it last night XD#anyway. i hope this slideshow has convinced you and that you can finally see him for what he really is >:D ❤️ /j#dallon weekes#the brobecks#idkhow#idkhbtfm#i dont know how but they found me

Team Orders: The Dirty Little Secret of Motorsports
In most team sports, your entire team either loses, wins, or draws. There isn't a state where some of your team wins and some of your team loses. Whilst in individual sports, it's you versus everyone else, so your job is pretty simple. Motorsports, however, exists in an awkward middle ground: you are both part of a team, and you are competing for individual glory.
This can meltdown in one of two ways. The first is when individual glory prevails over playing the team game, such as the Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost crash at Suzuka 1989, or the various Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg collisions, most prominently at Spain 2016. Then there's the other way: when the team prevails over individual glory.
The team orders.
This last weekend we saw team orders come into play as Oscar Piastri was leading the Hungarian Grand Prix, but McLaren pit second placed Lando Norris early to cover off any potential threat from Lewis Hamilton. This was an odd move as Lewis wasn't really all that close to either McLaren at this point, and the undercut gave Lando a massive advantage over Oscar.
Oscar Piastri pits two laps later and comes out in second. The gap widens to about six seconds, and McLaren spends the next chunk of the race trying to tell Lando to be a good teammate and let Oscar by in the end. McLaren started with light requests, then told Lando to remember the team, and eventually just started guilt-tripping Lando into giving up second.
Lando eventually lifted off on the straight, let Oscar pass, and Piastri took his first Formula One Grand Prix victory.
Now, Lando got the pole and was clearly the faster car at the end of the race, however, Piastri got the lead off the start, pulled away, and was in the lead when McLaren decided to pit Lando first. Really, I think the biggest problem is that McLaren decided to pit Lando first despite the fact that everyone could see that fresh tyres were a massive advantage at the Hungaroring.
Still, it's clear that Lando didn't particularly want to move over, and it's clear that McLaren was pretty desperate to get him to let Oscar by.
The big lift off the straight necessary to let Piastri by is also somewhat of a statement, Lando was making a point over how choreographed this switch was.
So, the team made the strategy call that flipped the order and made the drivers flip it back despite the fact that Norris didn't particularly seem to want to.
Where does that leave this case in comparison to a few other famous cases of team orders?
Well, one of the most famous examples is from the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, where - as seen in the movie Ford vs. Ferrari - where Ken Miles and Denny Hulme's #1 Shelby American Ford GT40 Mk. II was leading from the #2 sister car of Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon. In third - albeit twelve laps down - was another GT40 Mk. II, the #5 Holman & Moody car of Ronnie Bucknum and Dick Hutcherson. Ford man Leo Beebe ordered the three cars to finish in a dead heat for the photo opportunity.
Miles in the #1 car slowed down to let the #2 catch up, and Ford got their photo finish. The only problem was that McLaren and Amon finished a nose ahead, on top of the traditional part of the story where they started a further two spots behind the #1 and therefore traversed a greater distance.
The commonalities between this and Hungary 2024? Well, the lead car was ordered to slow down and that led to the car in second place taking the victory.
Then in the late 1990s into the 2000s, we got a slew of controversial team orders in Formula One, which eventually culminated in team orders getting banned.
First comes the 1997 European Grand Prix at Jerez, where, after the championship deciding crash between Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher, Schumacher is out of the race, out of the championship hunt, and will soon be disqualified from the 1997 season altogether, while Jacques is limping his car home, currently in the lead.
However, Williams then tells Jacques to let the McLarens of Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard through. Jacques thus finished third, narrowly ahead of fourth placed Gerhard Berger. Now, it made sense for Jacques to let the faster McLarens through since he only needed a single point to match Michael and then beat him on countback, or two to beat him outright. First was worth 10, third was still worth 4.
The thing is that Williams and McLaren actually had an arrangement where, if McLaren helped Williams - or at least didn't get in their way - then Williams would help McLaren, so it wasn't just a matter of Jacques protecting his car, he was ordered to let the McLarens by.
To add fuel to the fire, McLaren had used team orders in that very race already, as Hakkinen started ahead at Jerez only to wind up behind Coulthard on pit strategy, something McLaren "fixed" with team orders, in a case very similar to Hungary 2024.
Also similar was the very next race, Australia 1998, where Hakkinen had some sort of radio mishap - accounts vary from him mishearing something to someone outright tapping McLaren's comms to call Mika in - went through the pits and emerged behind Coulthard. Ron Dennis again used team orders to correct an issue that came out of pit lane.
Also in 1998 was the Jordans at Spa, which I talked about in last week's blogpost. There, in treacherous wet conditions, Jordan ordered Ralf Schumacher to stop catching teammate Damon Hill and remain in second place, conserving the team's first 1-2 finish on the stormy day.
Now that I've established Williams, McLaren, and Jordan were all doing this stuff too, let's get to the name synonymous with team orders in this period: Ferrari.
First was a rather understandable case: the 1999 German Grand Prix, where Mika Salo - filling in for Michael Schumacher who broke his legs at the British Grand Prix earlier that year - was ordered to let Eddie Irvine by for the win. Mika Salo was just the fill in driver, Eddie Irvine was competing for the championship, and championship rival Mika Hakkinen crashed out after a tyre failure, so this was a ten-point gain for Irvine. All of that made sense.
What made less sense was Austria 2002, where coming onto the start-finish straight for the final time, Rubens Barrichello lifted off big time to let Michael by and allowed Schumacher to take his fifth win of the season - fourth in a row - in just the sixth race of the season. Yeah...it was not particularly necessary...and the fans let Ferrari know by booing the podium.
Even Michael didn't seem proud of it, as he let Rubens stand on the top step of the podium in his place.
The similarity to Hungary 2024? The big show of a lift to let the teammate past, though this was more dramatic given Rubens did it quite literally on the run to the line.
In the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis at the end of that season, Schumacher would lift off and let Rubens finish alongside, which actually led to Rubens winning the race by 0.011 seconds. Schumacher and Ferrari have maintained that this was a botched photo finish, much like Le Mans 1966, but there has been a persistent theory that Michael was returning the favor for Austria earlier that season.
All of these incidents in quick succession and the growing controversy around them led to the FIA, after the 2002 season, banning the use of team orders.
So why were team orders allowed to happen in Hungary 2024?
Well, it turns out enforcing a ban on team orders is hard.
The crashgate scandal in 2008 - where Renault ordered Nelson Piquet Jr. to crash deliberately as Fernando Alonso was coming to the pits to bring out the safety car - was revealed in the summer of 2009.
Then in the 2010 German Grand Prix, we have the famous "Felipe, Fernando is faster than you, confirm you understood the message" case, where Massa was ordered to let Fernando by for the championship.
These two incidents led to the FIA conceding that they weren't actually able to police team orders, so as much as they would ban Briatore and Symonds on the Renault front and fine Ferrari, neither race result was overturned. The team orders ban was gone after the end of 2010, having only lasted eight seasons.
So team orders are now legal again, and the case of Multi-21 from the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix is the most famous example. Sebastian Vettel was ordered to remain behind Mark Webber, refused, and overtook the Australian to take the win. For what it's worth, Mark Webber is Oscar Piastri's manager. Multi-814 doesn't quite have the same ring to it though.
Disregarding team orders and taking the win is something a lot of people have suggested that Lando should've done, that yielding proves he doesn't have the ruthless edge to be a championship caliber driver.
On the other hand, McLaren's team radio to Lando insisted that Lando and Oscar have helped each other countless times and they'll need each other's help to win the championship. Multi-21 was in Vettel and Webber's last year as teammates and there's always been the suggestion that Vettel refusing to yield is part of the reason why Mark retired.
Lando and Oscar are both young and quick, they can both be with McLaren for a long time provided Zak Brown can keep his lust for young drivers in check, so maybe Lando yielding to Oscar was the right call.
Time will tell if giving the position in the end was enough, or if all the will-he-or-won't-he itself will ensure Piastri won't be as trusting of Norris in the future.
Always in motion the future is.

Undesirable Presents: Le/vi Acker/man for @nametakensff and @kawaii-kushami's snzblr secret santa event <3
Tags: aot/snk-canonverse, allergies (pollen), cold, contagion mention, spray, mess, language. Word count: 2000 (and counting) A/N: I have several apologies to make about this fic >-< First of all, I am so sorry that it is so late! Secondly, I apologize for being unfamiliar with the other fandoms requested, I couldn’t help but feel guilty for writing for my fav. Third thing: just so I can have something out sooner rather than later, please consider this a part 1 that will be edited, updated, and self-reblogged upon completion. Finally, this fic may be too indulgent, but I am crossing my fingers that it is enjoyable anyways ~
If Levi had his way, he would have spent the day in solitude.
His ideal birthday was simply his ideal day. In the warmer months, it would have been a sunrise run followed by a cold shower, his warm sweat and clingy pollen swirled down the drain. Then, his civilian clothes and a walk to the brick cafe at the edge of town. Black tea, white croissant, yellow pages of his favorite novel. Head ducked down and buried in his book, anyone who recognized him - for better or for worse - received the message: leave him be. He would sip until the porcelain ran dry, would stay until his stomach rumbled. With the last hours of daylight, he would stop at the butcher stand and purchase a few ounces of meat. It was about all he could afford on his military salary, but with rare optimism, he preferred to say it was all he cared to buy. Steak dinner for one. Lights out by dark. It was his way.
But Levi hardly ever had things his way.
He was a December baby, as Hange so mockingly put it, who loathed winter cold and winter colds. Instead of that morning jog and downtown stroll, he shuttered himself in his room with intermittent napping and tidying. Some considered his celebration traditions pitiful, but he could not complain. In ways as weighty as a family to visit or write to, yet also in aspects as miniscule as a good night’s sleep, Levi had been cheated in most realms of life. In time, he had come to live with it, found comfort in little joys, and wished the others understood that. That wish was most wanted on his own birthday, for everyone else seemed to celebrate it more than the man himself.
In the depths of his heart, he knew they cared about him. The yearly plethora of visits all accompanied with gifts should have proven that, but he loathed the treatment he received. Perhaps the early symptoms of the annual cold were to blame for that. No matter how hard he tried to avoid it, contagion made quick work of the barracks. Sooner or later, it would catch up to him, and that onset always seemed to hover around his birthday. On occasion, he wondered if he would be better off facing that inevitable infection head on rather than repeating the futile delay, but his train of thought was always cut off one way or another. A pang of headache, a harsh cough, a runny nose, or a sudden sneeze. This time, it was a knock at his door, the first of the day, one of many sure to come.
Levi swung his legs over the side of the bed. Bright rays reflected off the metal buckles of his gear and reflected into his eyes, garnering a wince and dawning thought: just how late did I sleep in? Standing up, he immediately noted how his shoulders felt heavy, his breaths labored. If he had to guess, his cold would take hold of him before the 25th was over. Lucky him.
Hand clamped down hard on the handle, startling the two on the other side just before he creaked his door open. The tall couple cast shadows over him: Nanaba and Miche with -
Shit...
Levi braced himself for their scream, but instead, they spoke calmly, handing over the bouquet with a pair of matching smiles, “Happy Birthday, Levi.”
He startled, not because he was surprised by their presence, but intimidated by their present: a bundle of bright-red poinsettias, pointed with specks of pollen he doubted they had noticed. They were far too innocent to have purposefully gifted him such a slew of allergens. Others, however, he was less sure about.
Instead of reaching out to grab them, Levi crossed his arms and tipped his tongue in refusal - refusal of their gift and refusing to indulge in the sneeze he already felt budding. Speaking quickly, he aimed to rush them out before they could witness his unravel, “I don’t want them.”
“C’monnn, Levi!” Nanaba pleaded, bending at the knees and shooting up again quickly. In her eager bounce, his eyes widened as he watched the petals flutter with her. His arms instinctively flinched before him as if he could block the microscopic wave. “Miche and I stood outside for hours in this freezing cold -”
Great, two more patients upcoming.
“- waiting for the flower shop to open.”
“First in line,” Miche added. “Do you know how popular these things are at this time of year?”
Levi’s stance remained unchanged, Nanaba saw his disinterest and felt compelled to play it up, selling the present rather than gifting it. “They smell good, too!”
Miche, on the other hand, preferred the path of insistence. Snatching the stems from his partner, he thrust them to Levi’s face, nearly touching, “Go on, smell them, you’ll see for yourself.”
He held his breath, reluctant to inhale as long as those were within reach. Aiming for subtlety, he feigned to nonchalantly scratch his nose with his wrist, “If you like them, keep them.”
“Someone’s ungrateful…” Miche teased, unhurt by the shorter man’s attitude, but never passing up an opportunity to rag it. “Y’know, most people would say ‘thanks’ or something…”
Levi frowned, he wasn’t ungrateful. Deep down, he was touched. On the exterior, though, he was objectively irritated, and could understand why they misread him. With a pang of guilt, he sought to correct the miscommunication, but that pang was miniscule compared to the burn of his nostrils, a flame that the leaves were now fanning.
“No, it’s just…” his face scrunched as he attempted to fight it off, just until he could finish the sentence, at least? “It’s… just…”
However, that bouquet was set on denying him. Throwing in the towel, a rare occurrence for humanity's strongest, he whipped around and buried his nose in the crook of his elbow, “Hah’AESCH-ihh!”
Fuck, all three parties unknowingly shared the same thought. For Levi, the nature of his curse was multifaceted. Foremost, the unexpected harshness of that sneeze, the wind knocked out of him first thing in the morning. From that, the daunting notion that this was the first of many sure to come, either from allergies or the cold. Finally, the flush that flooded his cheeks. That outburst had shown enough vulnerability already, Levi lingered behind his arm and remained turned away, waiting for the blush to disappear as well.
Yet, even after those awkward seconds of silence, neither Nanaba nor Miche could erase that image from their mind: his tan coat spotted brown, the mist that shot from beneath his elbow and faded into the room’s sunlit atmosphere. With the captain turned, they allowed their faces to contort with disgust. When his audible sniff confirmed what they thought they saw, they looked to each other and cringed, agreeing that this birthday visit was over.
His comrades did not put the dots together, that the sneeze was a symptom of his allergies rather than the cold that was notably floating through the halls. Fearing for their own immune systems, they retreated several paces, but not before Miche thrust the flowers in Levi’s grip and snapped his hand back, no chance of handing them back now.
By the time Levi turned himself around, arm still bent at his nose, the pair was already a distant blur.
Nanaba waved over her shoulder, “Feel better soon! Don’t come near us until you do!” A joking-not-joking singsong to her departure.
“Have fun with those!” Miche cupped his hand around his mouth, allowing his bid to beckon from down the corridor, “You can thank us later!”
Levi dropped his arm, prepared to call back. Doing so, however, meant that his guard was let down, and he should have known better, that his assailant would be quick to take advantage. With the distance, Levi did not turn or cover - not that he had the time for that - and instead ducked his head down, sneezing onto his own torso. “Hnn’kkshu! Heh-ISHhew!!”
Unfortunately for him, the height at which he landed placed him adjacent to the very bouquet that set him off. A dire proximity, each inhale killed every second - any hope - of relief.
The mess was not only audible, it was tangible, piercing the threads of his button-up and sinking through to his undershirt, summoning a shiver. The clean freak could not bear the sight, nor was it his habit to. After each sneeze and before opening his eyes, he assessed the tickle. If it remained, his lids likewise remained shut until his system managed to kill it. The first attempts at regular breaths informed him outright: you’re not done yet. Levi kept his head down, bangs intercepting his eyeline with each jolt. “Heh’tchew! Kk’shuu!!”
Once again, he paused to survey his own state. Although he beckoned for a break, his body merely mocked him. That all you got? Clearly unsatisfied, with frustration, he submitted to its demands, exacerbating the expulsion as best as he could, aiming to please. “Hah-ESHhew!! HIH’kit-chew! Hah…Hah-AEshih!!”
His intakes had been audible even from those meters away, his fit an early alarm clock for all still asleep in the vicinity. Dammit. As an insomniac, he was especially remorseful to have been responsible for waking anyone on the weekend. Even redder now, he tried to convince himself it was not his fault, that they should have known better than to shove those flowers in his face. However, as his voice crescendoed, it became more of a stretch to blame the gifters rather than the receiver, the inducer over the screamer.
The burn in his sinuses was unbearable, he decided to look to the windows behind him, hoping to coax relief. Before he could lure his gaze that way, though, he caught a glimpse of pity on his teammates, and somehow, that was what bothered him the most.
Fuck, this has to stop. At this point in the fit, breaths were hard to come by, and his life-or-death experiences had molded his mindset to meet his most urgent needs first. Perhaps counterintuitive, Levi understood that defeating the irritant meant battling with it. Working through rather than around. Meeting their eye contact, Levi yanked their gift to his face and took a deep, deliberate intake, figuring that his unconventional strategy could get two messages across: he was allergic to their gift, but at least it was good for something. And maybe they’ll remember this scene come next year.
Indeed, they would, and Levi would be lucky if the memory remained confined to those two. The finale was a sneeze that made them cover their ears and made the last few sleepers snap up in panic. For him, the aftermath resembled the end of a workout: tire and exhaustion, yet inexplicable relief. For them, it read like a newspaper headline: steadfast, hardass germaphobe of the branch soaked in his own saliva and other unspeakable substances. The tight-lipped, ever calm captain engaged in the toughest battle of his life: no titan in sight, but tiny irritants also impossible to see. Screaming the barracks awake, he would have been the last culprit anyone suspected. Only true friends would keep this episode a secret, maybe he shouldn’t have been so terse with them.
Vengefully, and with the slightest bit of told you so, Levi motivated himself through the end with the anticipation of seeing their guilty faces, but by the time he opened his eyes again, they were long gone, either cowering from contagion or gossiping already. Around here, viruses and rumors spread like wildfire.
Worked up and let down, Levi released a shaky exhale, wiped his face with his sleeve, flung the door shut behind him, and tossed the bouquet onto his bed.
One down.

This post has the aim of collecting all those stories which have one or more of the following characteristics:
It is a modern story set in the past of our characters (mainly 1930s);
The characters embrace their classic looks (again, the 1930s one) and the artstyle should refer, at least partially, to that era;
It has connection to classic tales and/or there is interaction with their past selves, by time travel or other gimmick.
I think these bullet points are enough, but the kind of stories I'm choosing as the first slate, will explain the criteria better than words.

Valjean: Everyone has a secret inside of them, sir. I knew a man. I thought he had a heart of stone. It was scary how unyielding he was. And recently, I learnt they had found him, misérable, drowned in the Seine. (...) He took his own life. I would never expect that of him. Never. Gillenormand: From the way you talk about him, I assume you were very close. Valjean: We knew each other for many years. Well, he thought he knew me, but in reality he died before he'd learnt who I really was.
Les Misérables (2000), episode 4
🥺🥺🥺
No, he did learn who you were.
Javert thought he served justice that was always right, but he saw that a criminal could change. And it was a crime to let him go, and it was a crime to arrest him. And it broke him. So he arrested himself and took his own life.
But before doing that, he let a guy, who just wanted to see his wife and their newborn child, even though he was forbidden from entering Paris, go. He finally listened and didn't talk over someone he saw as a criminal and decided to trust the guy's words.
"You are different than the others. Before you judge people, you want to understand them."
rub it in harder, random guy
I really loved the character of Javert and his journey in this adaptation. And he had so much screentime 🥺
